National University of Singapore (Chongqing) Research Institute (‘NUSRI-CQ’), jointly established by the National University of Singapore (‘NUS’) and the Chongqing Liang Jiang New Area Administrative Committee, is an independently operated overseas research institute of NUS located in Chongqing.
Leveraging on NUS' excellent research expertise and global resources in a broad spectrum of areas, NUSRI-CQ has established research platforms in advanced manufacturing and materials, intelligent sensing and AI, modern logistics, as well as finance and financial risk management. NUSRI-CQ offers training and education opportunities addressing to the needs for knowledge upgrading arising from the local community, to bring the excellence of NUS teaching and research resources closer to the people from west China, in particular to outstanding individuals who have enthusiasm and potential for management, scientific research and technological development.
The NUSRI-CQ-affiliated PhD Programme, started in 2020, is initiated and launched to extend the NUS research excellence beyond Singapore, and to promote research collaborations between Singapore and China.
The typical candidature of the NUSRI-CQ-affiliated PhD programme is four years and students of the programme will spend the first year in NUS on coursework, subsequent two years in NUSRI-CQ on research projects, and the final year on research work in NUS. Students are required to complete faculties/schools’ requirements of coursework, comprehensive qualifying examination (CQE), oral qualifying exam (OQE), seminars, and PhD dissertation before their oral defence. Assuming successful fulfillment of all requirements, students of the programme will be awarded PhD degrees from NUS.
NUSRI-CQ PhD Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students who have been offered admission to the NUSRI-CQ-affiliated PhD programme. Recipients of the Scholarship are required to work for minimum two years in Chongqing Liang Jiang New Area after their graduation from the programme.
